about

In May 2013, I met with Jamey Haddad for two days of musical collaboration and exploration. Surrounded by old and new percussion instruments from around the world and electro-acoustic fiddle textures, we wrapped up our time with this tune.

The opening groove and A section melody existed prior to our session, but the B melody was written with Jamey in mind. The third part came together on the spot when Jamey suggested "Let's change it up and take it somewhere different…"

Jamey plays two instruments of his own invention on this tune: kicking off with the Hadjira, combining kanjira, riq and pandeiro; and soloing on the Hadgini, a two-sided Udu drum combining African clay pots with South Indian Classical split-finger techniques.
